In
2014, 5,340,000 young Europeans of working age were unemployed. Throughout the
EU, from Portugal to eastern Europe, unemployment rates for those under 25
remain very high. 22.8 per cent of young people in Europe are looking for a
job, which could create a 'lost' generation.
In
response to the alarming rates of unemployment in some countries, the
commission has proposed new measures to help member states fight the social
exclusion of these young people by ensuring them job offers, teaching or
training.
We
can also count on citizen initiatives, or at least civil society. In Belgium, a
group of trainers has launched the country's first business school specializing exclusively in sales. This is an area in which
many companies are seeking candidates.
This
'sales academy' helps not only youths who want to acquire the knowledge to
succeed, but also older people who want or need to change careers, or companies
willing to train their staff.
The
labour market is highly competitive and therefore, practical sales training is
an advantage. A recurring and extremely frustrating answer heard at the end of
interviews is, "sorry, but you don't have enough experience". This
type of training - with interactive simulations, role-play and practical
exercises - has become almost essential in order to avoid hearing those words.
(...)
An
inventory of the European labour market will be drawn up at the event, as well
as a presentation of the initiatives currently in place. In addition, valuable
advice will be provided to young people who wish to get into sales.
We
must realise that we cannot simply let this social crisis deepen. We must give
young people the opportunities they deserve - this is the collective
responsibility of our society and of each person who is able to take action.
We
need to remember that underneath all these issues lay not only numbers and
statistics, but also real people and families, whose futures depend on the
decisions we make today.
Europe
has a responsibility to provide its people with hope and the chance for a
better future that will make their dreams come true. We want a Europe of
progress and prosperity for all.

Interpretação do artigo:
A crise
